so, we went to the libary today and fyi they have no books on drag queens/transvestites! well, that is apart from this one, unfortunatly it was in the reference section so i couldn't read that much however i did manage to get a few photos!

LOVE, LOVE.
LOVE- the androgyny issue.
so, the new spring/summer 2011 issue of LOVE's out and i've got to say, it's genius! the photoshoots and articles are perfectly related to this fmp as it's all about androgyny and transexuals! they feature people such as lea t and andrej pejic and talk about how the fashion industry is currently begining to promote androgyny as the new trend and making it acceptable to have transvestite models!
in the mag they ask the contributers what they would do if they were a boy/girl for a day and it was really interesting to see some of the answers.. i threw the question out there today and most of the girls said they'd have sex.. i may post it and see the response i get soon.

so although i've done all this previous work my fmp officially starts now, SO EXCITED.
i'd really appreciate it if you'd comment/give feedback and opinions on my current posts and also let me know whether you think this song would be appropriate..
it's a song by Leigh bowery who is currently a massive influence on this project! for all of you that don't know of him either look further down this blog or i'll simply just give you a quick overview. he was a pop star, model, club promoter and fashion designer based in london. 'His influence reached through the fashion, club and art worlds to impact, amongst others, Alexander McQueen, Lucian Freud, Vivienne Westwood, Boy George, Antony and the Johnsons, John Galliano, the Scissor Sisters, David LaChapelle, Lady Bunny plus numerous Nu-Rave bands and nightclubs in London and New York which arguably perpetuated his avant garde ideas."
Leigh Bowery, peripheral in the notion of art practice by combining dandyism and body art, reconstructed his image while performing ...[he] uses the expression of the 'other' to create a form of cultural lip-syncing transvestism'
The walking art instillation that was leigh bowery really pushed the limits of fashion and would tie belts around his waist to make his stomach bulge out in odd places and push his 'boobs' up. he went against every social constraint and often wore masks over his face and crotchless trousers.
this song really reflects the outrage of leighs personality and provokes even the most outrageous of audiences.
if you go almost to the start of this blog theres a post to a 'humiliated transvestite' blog which is run by transvestites talking about their experiences in a really derogatory and vulgar way. it made me wonder why they would do such things and then talk about how disgusting they had been over the internet however most transvestites often can't get jobs because of their circumstances or differences so they turn to prostitution (which links with the T-Girls further down).
basically, i chose this song as it's really 'to the point' if you will and reflects those 'humiliated transvestites' and how they feel. also the emphasis on the term 'useless man' shows how useless some transvestites feel as males that’s why they want to make the transition in the first place. i also puts across a really crude message and i wanted it to juxtapose with that of a positive one which would be the celebration of transvestites, transsexuals and drag queens when they take the end of year catwalk by storm!
i was also thinking of mixing it with Boy George's Ich Bin Kunst (which was wrote about Leigh Bowery) and Lady Gagas 'Born This Way'
