iyer sex change debate!

in college, we had to think of a topic to discuss and debate about. obviously i shouted out sex change, so we decided on 'sex change and gay rights' this went on for well over an hour, but some of the things that were said were quite interesting..

someone brought up the fact that gay relationships or anything that was publicised to do with same sex interaction was banned and people were put in prison for it.. this was only 40 years ago as well. i think it's ridiculous to be honest.. some people thought that if people want to do it, that's fine, just don't do it in public. surely the same rules should apply with straight people then? so what is considered 'normal' for a girl and boy to go out and kiss in public etc, imagine being put in prison for that! yeah, it's not right.

that brought us onto another matter. there is so much discussion and arguments over racism and how everyone should be treated the same. there seems to be a massive social deal about this - but why does it only apply to race? i think it should be exactly the same for gay relationships and cross dressers as well. equality n' all that!

we also started speaking about how there was an MP that came out that he was gay. he got fired from his job - just because he fancied the 'wrong sex'. he had a family, a wife and children, but eventually couldn't handle it and confessed. whether he knew all along that he was gay or not, he shouldn't be afraid of how socially accepted he is going to be! i find it really bad that people have to hide part of themselves to feel like they fit in. there was a woman, yearsss ago now, who was gay and when she finally came out, she got stoned to death.

and and and, finally, only 10-12 years ago, the first gay kiss was shown on the tv. it was between Luke and Noah on Dawson's Creek. it caused loads of arguments as to whether it was right or wrong to show it. personally i think its fine. other people were complaining that they don't want children to grow up thinking that's the right thing to do. my opinion is that whatever you grow up with, you find normal. until you develop your own trail of thought that is, then you can decided for yourself what you want to do.

this could quite easily lead me on to the man that was pregnant.. whether it was an accident or she had the facial operation to become a man, however couldn't quite gather the courage to let go of her original self that easily.
but that's a completely different story..

  1. ..and England and france are the only places in the EU where it's still illegal to change your gender on your birth certificate after a sex change!
